darretTo Host or Not To Host —Tools For an Informed Decision
By: Darret Hart

Mature companies, and even start-ups, often grapple with whether they should buy their own servers and hardware, or opt for hosting their IT infrastructure in an external location with a hosting provider. In making the decision, they evaluate options that will help reduce operational costs and improve their competitiveness.

According to a recent white paper titled “Escaping the IT Investment Trap: Better IT at Half the Cost” developed by Stratecast Partners, hosting provides a cost-effective and highly attractive alternative to the do-it-yourself approach. With cost reductions of more than 51%, hosting provides even greater control, increases a company’s technical and business flexibility, and reduces business risks.

The following executive summary provides small to medium sized businesses the facts about hosted IT infrastructure.

whitepaperEXECUTIVE SUMMARY
“Escaping the IT Investment Trap: Better IT at Half the Cost”

Businesses today require a reliable IT infrastructure in order to interact with customers, collaborate with business partners or give workers access to the latest files and productivity-enhancing business applications.

The main objective of most companies is to own and self-operate their IT infrastructure; however, there is a better and more economical alternative known as hosted IT infrastructure. For the small- and mid-sized business, subscribing to a hosting service offers access to the latest IT innovation.

The purpose of this report is to describe the financial and other benefits of using a hosted IT infrastructure service. Of course as with any service, these benefits are only gained by selecting a competent provider, so the report includes a checklist of essential attributes to seek in a hosted IT infrastructure provider.
