Print Management: Uncovering Hidden Costs
By: Martin Knutson

Most Companies do not know what they spend on their printing environment; however, according to research, print production and management costs can equal up to 3% of total revenues. Print production costs include toner, parts and labor whereas management costs are associated with who provides these items and services.

There are many programs available today that will provide you with this information. Business Product & Solutions currently has a print management program that gives you the tools to manage every aspect of your printer environment, including the ability to let you know when it’s time to re-order toner. We even provide a web-based order form to speed up the ordering process and offer a feature that can inform you of a printer malfunction via e-mail, pager, or blackberry device. Improving your ability to anticipate printer complications will increase your company’s productivity.

Everyone must have enjoyed last month’s question: A $7.2 Million Check for the Purchase of Alaska was signed by the treasurer of the United States and by the Secretary of Treasury. What were the names of both of these gentlemen?

Answer: The correct answer was Francis Spinner and Hugh McCullough and was submitted by Bob Jones. Congratulations Bob!

This month's question: It's been around for millions of years, but it's no more than a month old. What is it?

TEAM FOCUS

Behind every great company is a strong business philosophy. At Technology Team, we consider ourselves a “team-based” business, reflective of the values presented in our favorite book The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni.

Lencioni’s term “team” refers to how individuals in an organization work together in order to achieve a common goal. In the book, Lencioni presents a reliable model illustrating the characteristics of a successful team, the first being the ability to trust:

  • Trusting your teammates not only means having faith that they will pull their own weight, but also allowing yourself to be vulnerable and open about your mistakes and weaknesses.

The second characteristic is the ability to engage in conflict:

  • The term “conflict” can have a negative connotation, but in this sense it refers to the unfiltered, passionate exchange of ideas. If there is a fear of conflict between teammates, discussion will be veiled and filled with unproductive, guarded comments.

Technology Team continually strives to maintain an open, trusting atmosphere in which productive, passionate communication takes place. The strength of our team allows us to achieve our main goal — complete customer satisfaction.

For the three remaining characteristics of an effective team, check out next month’s newsletter!
