Last year, we informed our readers about how to recycle and refurbish end-of-life computer and office equipment and we thought we’d continue the trend in 2010. Our guest eNews author, Steve Luedtke, from Critical Power Exchange, shares with us how to make environmentally friendly and cost-effective changes to your data center. Mr. Luedtke brings over 20 years of experience in the heavy equipment and construction industry with general manager and marketing responsibilities for several projects all over North America for Fortune 500 companies. His article offers an overview of the refurbished equipment market and how it can be utilized in data center and collocation operations. Recycling and/or acquisition of refurbished products can be a “Green” alternative to common place equipment change out and offer substantial savings to projects. Technology Team is proud to be your leading IT Service Provider specializing in IT Migration; we strive to keep our readers informed about the latest developments within the IT Industry and to connect you with knowledgeable IT professionals. In today’s global marketplace two items are consistently at the top of the list when data centers are replacing or eliminating equipment: What is the impact on the balance sheet and how will the changes affect the environment? In other words, where can your company responsibly purchase or dispose of vital equipment while at the same time balancing the needs of the bottom line and the environment?

There are a few select companies in the U.S. that specialize in alternatives to the typical avenues of disposal and replacement of backup power and cooling system equipment. Refurbishment, recycling and remanufacturing of these types of equipment offer a wealth of benefits to the data center markets. Offering cost-effective asset recovery services combined with assurance of proper disposal, the refurbished equipment market will be an ever growing key to the data center professional.

COMMUNITY FOCUS

At Technology Team, we value the opportunity to give back to the community and we are proud to have a key role within the efforts of “Project NEW Beginnings,” a program developed by Fort Worth Business Assistance Center to assist low to no income individuals develop their own business. Project NEW Beginnings, formerly known as “Project ACORN ” (Advancing Confident Owners into Reputable New Business) has changed its name in order to re-establish its mission within the community.

* The Fort Worth Business Assistance Center and Technology Team, LLC would like to clarify that “Project NEW Beginnings,” previously “Project ACORN,” is in no way affiliated with the “Association of Community Organization for Reform Now” (ACORN), currently at the center of national controversy.

Project NEW Beginnings has changed more than its name; it has enriched its curriculum. The new program structure includes a prerequisite course called “Money Smart,” which features our very own Executive Vice President, Allen Spinner, as a speaker. The four week program establishes the foundation for “wise and mature personal financial decisions” to help entrepreneurs better manage business finances.

As always, the program provides business training, counseling and education, enabling the students to be self-sustaining. Project NEW Beginnings focuses on developing self-empowerment, confidence, passion and providing opportunities for the students.

Our President, Sherry Green and Allen participate in the program both by serving as instructors and by selecting one outstanding student to receive the “Rising Star Award.” The recipient of the award receives one full computer system, donated by Technology Team. I've always thought I had a good understanding of the essence of good business but I was definitely put back in my place after a conversation with our Vice President, Allen Spinner. After conferring with him about the latest draft of a document I'm creating about our company culture, he asked me a very important question:
